Cuimhne.
in progress · v0.1
A quiet photo album for families. Named for the Irish word for memory — pronounced KWEEV-neh.
What it is
Cuimhne is a shared photo album for the people you’d send a postcard to. You drop photos in, write a line underneath if you feel like it, and the people you invited can see them and add their own.
It is not a social network. There is no feed, no likes, no strangers. It is more like a shoebox under a bed, except the bed is in the cloud and your aunt in Donegal can open it too.
it does
- + private albums, shared by invite only
- + original-quality photos + short captions
- + export everything as a folder, any time
- + work on a phone browser without an app
- + keep EXIF + dates intact
it doesn’t
- × have a feed, likes, or comments soup
- × compress or strip your photos
- × use your photos to train anything
- × recommend, rank, or resurface memories
- × lock you in — your files stay yours
What it runs on
- host
- a small VPS, or your own box at home
- storage
- plain folders on disk. S3-compatible if you want it.
- software
- Go, SQLite, plain HTML. One binary.
- auth
- magic-link email. No passwords to forget.
- license
- AGPL
Try it
One binary, one config file. Point a domain at it and you’re done. If that sentence felt scary, write me — I’ll help you set one up.
